Chocolate Banana Smoothie: How Long Does It Take?

How long does it take to make a smoothie? Depends on the smoothie, really, the number of ingredients, and whether you have everything prepped and ready for the blender.

I timed myself making my Chocolate Banana Smoothie tonight. (It might have made me move a little faster than usual 😉.) And the grand total was 9 minutes. 9 minutes to get the blender on the counter and the ingredients in the blender and then to clean everything up. The recipe makes 2 smoothies, so that’s not too bad an investment, and you could double the recipe for more meals in about the same amount of time.

Is it strange how we’ve structured our lives to be so busy that the number of minutes spent making a smoothie matter? Maybe, but I think it’s important when reading or crafting a recipe that the total prep time be as accurate as possible. You want to be able to eat whatever you’ve created before having to go to bed or leave for work, so you don’t want to underestimate the time it takes to prepare your meal; but, you also don’t want to overestimate and wrongly assume that you don’t time to cook. So! It takes 9 minutes to make a smoothie. 5 and a half minutes to drink a smoothie (that’s, admittedly, a little fast), and 11 minutes to Instagram the smoothie. 😯 And now you know.

If you don’t count the gramming or live above a burger joint, it’s still faster than fast food. And this smoothie, unlike that bottom floor burger, is loaded with good stuff, including grass fed collagen protein, which is excellent for the skin. It’s sugar-free, sweetened with one banana and a date. And it’s a good source of potassium, magnesium, flavonoids, fiber, and healthy fat. It’s also really delicious.

  • Difficulty: Easy
  • Print

1 banana
1 diced medjool date
1 Tbsp cacao powder
1 scoop grass fed collagen powder*
1 Tbsp coconut oil
1 cup water
1 cup ice

*1 Tbsp if your brand doesn’t have a scoop

Place all ingredients in a blender and process until smooth.

Additional Info: It takes about 4 minutes to prepare my cat’s food and 7 minutes for him to stop complaining about it being late. ❤ He is so boss.
